Beginner Level: Art Core 2

A 36 lesson course designed to help you develop a solid foundation in watercolor painting with a complete working knowledge of color theory.

Lessons give students their first in-depth look at color theory in a simply written text and video lessons. Your child can work independently as they learn watercolor painting techniques from the video, and then apply those ideas to their own unique work of art. Text lessons broaden the scope of learning as students: 

• Explore color mixing and color combinations while expressing their knowledge through color swatches and works of art. 
• See examples of color concepts used by Master Artists while learning about the artist and major events in American art history. 
• Incorporate new techniques and special effects into their own painting as they explore various subject matter.

The ability to create your own unique watercolor artworks isn't something you're born with, but it's built on a number of techniques and principles that you can learn! Here are just a few of the concepts you'll learn to use in this course:

• Mix the colors in a color wheel so you can stop guessing and messing, and mix the colors you want with confidence.
• Set up the art space to reduce drips and create a smooth work flow.
• Learn the basic principles of color theory including analogous colors, complementary colors, neutral colors, and more! 
• Use brushes to create techniques such as washes, hard and soft edges, line and more!
• Learn to set up light sources to create light, shade, and shadow. 
• Become confident when painting a variety of subjects including landscapes, still life, floral, animal, and common objects. 
• Create paintings that reflect who you are by choosing to paint objects that you enjoy and that tell about your interests.
